Considérant que le lundi 9 mars 2020, le gouvernement Trudeau a déposé un projet de loi (C-8) visant à criminaliser l’offre publicitaire et la rémunération des thérapies dites de conversion de l’homosexualité vers l’hétérosexualité, et que ce projet de loi arrive à la suite d’un autre projet de loi semblable (S-202) émanant du Sénat;
Considérant qu’il existe suffisamment de preuves scientifiques pour démontrer le bien-fondé d’une recherche toujours plus poussée sur la question des thérapies dites de conversion;
Considérant que l’orientation sexuelle n’est pas immuable, et que les recherches de la professeure Lisa Diamond, coéditrice en chef du APA Handbook of Sexuality and Psychology (2014), démontrent que dans plusieurs cas cette orientation peut être fluide, surtout chez les homosexuels.
Considérant qu’il n’est pas du ressort du gouvernement, ni d’un certain lobby LGBT, d’empêcher, de quelque façon que ce soit, une personne ayant des attirances envers le même sexe de choisir pour elle-même une thérapie qu’il l’aiderait à migrer vers l’hétérosexualité;
Considérant l’incohérence d’un projet de loi visant à décourager la transition de l’homosexualité vers l’hétérosexualité, par le moyen de thérapies usant uniquement de la parole, dans un contexte où le gouvernement encourage présentement la « conversion » de personnes vers l’autre sexe (le phénomène soi-disant « transgenre »), jusqu’à permettre des thérapies hormonales et chirurgicales irréversibles;
Considérant que ce projet de loi va beaucoup plus loin que la simple suppression des thérapies dites « de conversion », mais qu’elle tend vers une persécution des croyants et autres personnes de bonne volonté par le biais d’une suppression de tout enseignement visant à encourager une personne d’adopter un style de vie sexuel en harmonie avec la foi et la raison.
Considérant que ces projets de loi briment donc une légitime liberté de recherche, d’expression, de conscience et de religion;
Nous soussignés demandons aux députés et aux sénateurs du Parlement du Canada de voter CONTRE les projets de loi C-8 et S-202.

Considering that on Monday March 9, 2020, the Trudeau government tabled a bill (C-8) aimed at criminalizing the advertising of, and the remuneration for, therapies known as conversion therapies from homosexuality to heterosexuality, and that this bill follows another similar bill (S-202) from the Senate;
Considering that there is sufficient scientific evidence to demonstrate the merits of greater research on the question of so-called conversion therapies;
Considering that sexual orientation is not in all cases immutable, and that the research of Professor Lisa Diamond, co-editor in chief of the APA Handbook of Sexuality and Psychology (2014), shows that in many cases sexual orientation can be fluid, especially among homosexuals.
Considering that it is not the responsibility of the government, nor of a certain LGBT lobby, to prevent, in any way whatsoever, a person with same-sex attractions from choosing for themselves a therapy which would help him or her migrate to heterosexuality;
Considering the inconsistency of a bill aimed at discouraging the transition from homosexuality to heterosexuality, by means of therapies using only speech, in a context where the government currently encourages the "conversion" of people to the other sex (the so-called “transgender” phenomenon), to the point of allowing irreversible hormonal and surgical therapies;
Considering that this bill goes much further than the simple suppression of so-called "conversion" therapies, but that it tends towards a persecution of believers and other people of good will by means of a suppression of all teaching aimed at encouraging a person to adopt a sexual lifestyle in accordance with faith and reason.
Considering that these bills therefore infringe upon those legitimate forms of freedom of research, expression, conscience and religion;
We, the undersigned, call on Members and Senators of the Parliament of Canada to vote AGAINST Bills C-8 and S-202.
