QLC June 2009 Newsletter

Greetings in Christ!

The end of April and the beginning of May was definitely a busy time for the Quebec Life Coalition (QLC). No sooner had we gotten off the “40 Days for Life” ride, in which we had spent the 40-day Lenten period from February 25 to April 5 praying in front of the Morgentaler abortion clinic (see http://www.40daysforlife.com/montreal-english/ for details) that we jumped into writing the May newsletter as well as doing outreach and promotion for the 2009 Walk for Life in Ottawa.

Above you can see a picture of Georges Buscemi, secretary-general of QLC with a bike helmet and holding a list of churches for pamphleting and postering. And the May visit of Father Thomas Euteneuer, president of Human Life International, also required a lot of planning. As you’ll read in the article about Fr. Euteneuer’s visit below, thanks to Paulo Buccella of Youth for Life, Janis Clarke of Eucharist for Life, and Frs. Gendreau and Couturier, everything went off without a hitch. And thanks to some great volunteers recruited through Operation Mustard Seed, the 1000 or so flyers for that event were designed and printed free of charge.

In addition to the Euteneuer visit and the March for Life, I attended, for QLC, the May 15 Campaign Life Coalition Youth Conference in Ottawa. That was a great opportunity to see how QLC in Quebec can reach the essential youth demographic. In particular, I especially found useful a meeting the chaperones and teachers held in private during the conference. In this meeting the teachers and CLC president Jim Hughes discussed various ways teachers could convince their respective school boards to release some funds for pro-life events. The lessons learned from this meeting can certainly be useful here in Quebec.

Also, please take a careful look at the attached page entitled “Operation Mustard Seed”. One of the major projects here at QLC is the promotion of a grass-roots pro-life movement. And “grassroots” means you. We’re looking for volunteers with different skills (translation, public speaking, graphic design, computer networking, database expertise, etc. etc.) We would like to build a database of these to better staff our various projects. Every little bit of help contributes to building a culture of life.

Finally, if you appreciate our effort here at QLC to fight the good fight for Life in Montreal and in Quebec, and if you appreciate how we operate solely on donations and without government help –without being allowed to give tax receipts— precisely because we can’t stay “neutral” on abortion, as the government would ask us, then please consider making a donation. Any amount is greatly appreciated. Also, monthly donations go a long way towards helping us plan for the longer term. See the “Operation Mustard Seed” page for details about our ambitious plans for the future.

For Life!

Luc Gagnon
President, Quebec Life Coalition

Georges Buscemi
Secretary General, Quebec Life Coalition

P.S. Please remember to read and fill out the Operation Mustard Seed form. You don’t need to donate to participate—if you wish, simply fill out the form and return it to us using the enclosed envelope!

P.P.S What’s especially needed in the pro-life movement today is for churches to take up the cause with zeal. That means we need people who can outreach at their church. So in filling out the Operation Mustard Seed form, please enter your church / parish if applicable.
