It's time for Charity in Truth

LifeSiteNews has launched a new website called Charity in Truth. Inform yourself and sign the petition to ask for a thorough reform of Development and Peace which to this day still seems to be funding groups which promote abortion and other immoral practices.

Quebec Life Coalition is a proud sponsor of this call to reform.

Euthanasia and assisted suicide are at our doors -- now's the time to act !

It's time to ring the alarm !

Euthanasia is at our doors. We only have a few weeks (at most 3 or 4 months) to tell our MNAs to vote NO on a proposed law, soon to be tabled by the Parti québécois, that aims to de facto legalize euthanasia and assisted suicide in Quebec.

Legalizing euthanasia and assisted suicide will create a pseudo-"right" to suicide. And when suicide becomes a right guaranteed by the State, that means that some people (doctors and other health-care professionals) will be given permission to kill others, according to certain criteria... On top of that, us taxpayers will be compelled to foot the bill for it all! Some people will consider this a good thing, because they think they will have their "clean" and "painless" deaths this way. However, other people (the elderly, the disabled, the poor, the depressed and others) will feel compelled to seek death as a result of psychological pressure (whether due to impatient family members, a lack of hospital beds, succession battles, inadequate support, etc.)

There is also the major societal change such a policy will bring: if this law is passed, suicide becomes a solution to the many problems of life. Just like those 45-year-old Belgian twins who were euthanized on the pretext that they were deaf and feared future blindness, others who face physical and psychological challenges will line up at the clinic to be euthanized (see for example "My mother was euthanized")

The PQ government is trying to reassure us that the new law will have "safeguards" or "strict guidelines" to ensure that no abuse takes place. But who do they take us for ?! Don't people ever learn from history? What about, for example, the legalization of abortion? When this form of homicide was legalized in 1969, there were "safeguards" and "strict guidelines" to be followed as well. To abort, one needed the approval of a committee of three doctors. It had to be for "good medical reasons." Some, no doubt, predicted that there would be at most a few hundred yearly abortions in Quebec. In the early years, this was the case. In 1971, there were around 1,000 abortions in Quebec. But that number grew and grew until 1988, when, with the Supreme court Morgentaler decision, all those beautiful "guidelines" and "safeguards" collapsed, leaving a legal vacuum. Today we're dealing with 30,000 abortions per year in Quebec, 100,000 in Canada. We have abortion on demand, for any reason, until the birth. That's what happened in the span of 40 years. I do not see how euthanasia will be different: in a few years, what has happened with abortion will happen for euthanasia -- euthanasia on demand for any or no reason -- unless we do something about it NOW.

What to do?

I believe there are five things that must be done immediately to stop this imminent bill.

1. First, the basics: put your head down and pray! Wherever you are, pray for a moment that God will heal the spiritual blindness of too many of our fellow citizens which leads them to believe that killing is an act of compassion and suicide a worthy and befeficial gesture. Also ask forgiveness for any way in which we could have contributed to this general lack of respect for life.

3. Third, and this is very imporant:  Contact your MNA as soon as possible. Your elected official must know what you think about this bad bill to be tabled soon: tell him "NO to euthanasia and assisted suicide, YES to a dignified death without aggressive treatment, with palliative care if necessary." Even better, visit him or her person! If you do not know your MNA, call the National Assembly:

Toll Free: 1 866 337-8837
or follow this link.

4. Talk with your family, friends and acquaintances. Grandparents, talk with your children and grandchildren, priest and pastors, talk to your flock, bishops, mobilize your dioceses, leaders, mobilize your community and each of you: get ready for a general mobilization that is about to emerge. (I hope to give you more details in a future post.)

5. Give us the means to disseminate our ads against euthanasia on television, radio and other media. We are currently in the process of translating and adapting to Quebec an anti-euthanasia ad that was broadcast on TV in Ontario.

With your support, we will be able to tell the truth about the dangers of euthanasia in Quebec. Thank you for your support!

And don't forget to forward this message to everyone you know. It  really is five minutes to midnight for euthanasia in Quebec. It is time to take action to counter this threat.

Prayer to Unborn Child Jesus

 Unborn Child Jesus

Unborn Child Jesus, I love you with all my heart, all my strength and all my soul because, from the very moment of your conception, you were in the world, true Man and true God. Forgive me, a poor sinner, for failing to recognize how you so utterly humiliated yourself for my sake. Help me understand that you, who are God, have lived as a small, defenseless unborn child in order to show me the priviledged way of humility and patience which leads to Everlasting Life.

O my Jesus, help me that I may never abandon the Mother whom you have given me, that I may enjoy the same peace that you enjoyed in her womb and that at the close of this dark age I may be born as you were born into the glory of God the Father. Amen.

Direct abortion is never necessary to save a mother's life

40 Days for Life : "It was an incredible experience"

This testimonial was emailed to us from a first-time participant to the 40 Days for Life:

I went today with my husband and our four kids, to support the prayer group in Montreal. It really got to me, and I can say it was an incredible experience. It is the first time we went, and I am going to be sincere, I never thought of finding such hostility on the part of people just passing by. It is really a spiritual combat we are living now. When we arrived, there was only one man from 40 days for life , quietly just next to the sign. I saw the counter-protestors standing next to Proabortion signs, so I figured where we should go right away to support. As soon as we got there, it didnt pass 5 min. when a young man, aroung 24 years old, started insulting and telling so many offensive, hurtful, and bad things to us, but mostly to the man with your tshirt on (Brian Jenkins the vigil coordinator--ed.). His formality, peacefullness and attitude was that of someone who is fill with patience that only God gives.

After that , we prayed one Hail Mary, he explained to us how the support works, we read as a family the meditation of the day, each of our kids taking turns to read. Then we just stood next to the big sign, my husband, and my kids. People passing by just cheered the proabortion group, sounded their cars, loud music, yelled, for support and even a public transportation bus blasted their horn for them ! We all stood there, astonished and praying, Which is the MOST important thing we could do. Then one man inside a mini bus yelled so many nasty things to all of us,and they even yelled to our kids to not listen to us, parents, because we were stupid! We just couldn't believe it! Another old man said it was stupid to pray for 40 days!! He said it was too long....

So, the first experience was kind of harsh for all of us, but Glory be to God. Suddenly one man inside a minivan, saw the other group, then saw us, and he waved at us in favor of the prayers and the Prolife campaign!!! Halleluiah!!!! My kids suddenly were all so full of joy . Later on our oldest son (18) told us that that man gave him the courage again of being there for the cause, when 98% of the people, cars that passed by, etc...were all looking at us as aliens just for supporting this cause. We finished at 7pm with a prayer guided by the man with the 40 days for life tshirt, and it was a very peaceful moment after all those difficult experiences. We then went to St Josephs Oratory for the 7h30 pm mass, and gave thanks to God for organizations like yours, for this movement for Life, and for all the troubled and uninformed women who are living with stress caused by an unwanted pregnancy.

God Bless you all, we hope to go again and as a family support your cause, that is ours too.

This fall's 40 Days for Life runs until November 4. Please come out and pray with us for an hour for the unborn !

The Development and Peace Controversy: Towards a Real Resolution

The Development and Peace Controversy: Towards a Real Resolution

June 23, 2012 (revised June 28, 2012)
By Georges Buscemi

Development and Peace (D&P), a humanitarian organisation founded by the Catholic bishops of Canada, has been repeatedly accused these past few years by LifeSiteNews and other groups and individuals of funding organisations that promote ideologies and engage in activities that run counter to Catholic teaching. These accusations have made a big splash in Catholic Canada, and after much initial denial, the bishops seem, at least implicitly, to have gotten around to admitting to at least some of what LifeSiteNews et al. had accused D&P of doing. And so in October 2009, the bishops struck an ad hoc committee with the mandate of overseeing D&P's work.

This is where things stand today. For their part, the bishops and D&P, having struck this oversight committee, seem to consider the matter pretty much closed. Bishop Richard Smith, president of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) said as much when he asked Canadian Catholics to “trust the bishops” when it came to D&P. Unfortunately, controversy still remains. In fact, whereas the bishops maintain that only a small amount of D&P partner groups were (are?) problematic, LifeSite et al. maintain that the problems at D&P are deep and systematic and involve funding to 53 problematic groups (this number could very well be larger, but D&P has for some time refused to publish a complete list of its Third-World partners). The question now is: what accounts for this disparity in perception? Are the facts of the matter still in dispute or is something else the problem?
In what follows I want to argue that the controversy over D&P is of a different nature than the one that has raged these past few years. Whereas one could characterize the dispute up until now as a dispute over facts, today not many facts of the matter are in dispute. Rather, I want to argue that the battle has gone from one about facts to one about ethics. If the D&P controversy still rages on, it is because the two parties are using two different sets of moral rules to determine the acceptability of certain D&P partnerships, and these differences result in the two parties having differing perceptions of the facts surrounding those partnerships. Put another way, right now LifeSite and the bishops are using different ethics to determine the choice of a D&P partner—this debate is now about which ethics is right. Ultimately I want to show that the bishops, at least from the arguments that have been put forward by them so far, seem to have espoused an ethic that runs counter to traditional catholic morality, whereas LifeSiteNews et al. have (at least implicitly) adopted an ethic that is consistent with this morality. It is my hope that, if I am right, the bishops will fully realize that they are using the wrong ethics when looking for D&P partners and will adopt a standard catholic ethic, which will allow them to see the situation as LifeSite et al. does and bring about the changes that have been called for from the beginning.
